Asian Media Industries Research Network

Who Are We?

About the

Asian Media Industries Research Network

The Asian Media Industries Research Network is an international scholarly network dedicated to advancing research on media industries and media labour across Asia. The network brings together researchers, practitioners, and students interested in the cultural, political, and economic dynamics shaping media production and creative work in the region.

While scholarship on media industries has often been shaped by Euro-American contexts, Asia is home to some of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving media ecosystems in the world. From film, television, and music to digital platforms, online content creation, and transnational production networks, media industries across Asia play a central role in shaping global cultural production. At the same time, the conditions under which media workers operate—from freelancers and creative entrepreneurs to platform-based content creators—vary widely across regional contexts.

The Asian Media Industries Research Network seeks to provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and comparative research on these developments. By bringing together scholars working across different Asian contexts and disciplines, the network aims to foster new conversations about media industries, labour, and creative economies in the region.
